The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction is pleased to announce the promotion of Dr. Steve Moody to principal at Foothills Correctional Academic School in Morganton, effective Oct. 5.

In his new position, Moody oversees school operations for students ages 22 and below as part of the NCDAC Public School Unit. He supervises approximately 20 certified school staff including teachers, a guidance counselor, and a school psychologist.

Other youth schools are located at Richmond (Minimum Custody) Correctional Institution, North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women, and Granville Correctional Institution.

“Dr. Steve Moody brings a wealth of experience, steady leadership, and a deep commitment to student success to his new role as principal of Foothills Correctional Academic School,” said Senior Director of Education and Programs Dr. Brooke Wheeler. “After serving with distinction as assistant principal for many years, he is exceptionally well prepared to lead the school into its next chapter of excellence.”

Dr. Moody will also facilitate the partnership between Foothills Correctional Institution Education Services and Western Piedmont Community College to serve students ages 22 and above. Curriculum offerings include early literacy and adult basic education programs, as well as high school equivalency diploma preparation and workforce development courses.

Dr. Moody, whose total educational career spans more than 36 years, began his carceral school administration career in 2002 as education director at Western Youth Institution in Burke County until it closed in 2013. He then moved across the street to become assistant principal at Foothills Correctional Academic School for almost 13 years.

Dr. Moody holds a Bachelor of Science in elementary education and Master of Science in education administration from Bob Jones University. He also holds a doctorate in education administration from the University of Virginia.
