Sweet Briar Alumnae Mentorship Program Enters Sixth Year With Record Student Participation

Sweet Briar’s Alumnae Mentorship Program enters its sixth year after mentoring 195 students and reaching a record 52 matches in 2025–26.
SWEET BRIAR, VA, UNITED STATES, September 15, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Now in its sixth year, the Alumnae Mentorship Program continues to see success and make an impact on current students as they prepare to graduate from Sweet Briar.In 2021, the Alumnae Relations & Development Office partnered with Career Services to launch the program, which continues to create unique opportunities for members of each year’s graduating class to gain incomparable career direction from seasoned Sweet Briar graduates. Associate Director of Alumnae Relations Caroline Chappell Hazarian ’09 and Director of Career Services Barbara Watts are intentional in matching the students with alumnae based on each student’s future career interests.
The program starts with fostering career conversations between the mentor and mentee, a résumé review session, guidance on fine-tuning a cover letter or personal statement, and concludes with a mock interview. Mentors also often help students with a wide variety of related career development activities, including providing advice on graduate school programs, transitioning to the world of work, and even guiding students through the federal security clearance process.
The program has successfully mentored 195 students (and counting!) through meaningful one-on-one relationships with alumnae. During the 2025–2026 academic year, the program expanded to include current juniors in addition to seniors, broadening its impact and providing more students with valuable mentorship opportunities.
As a result of this expansion, the program matched 52 alumnae with 52 students—the largest cohort in the program’s history. Looking ahead to the 2026–2027 academic year, the program is excited to build on this momentum by continuing to foster positive, impactful, and productive mentoring relationships that strengthen connections between students and the Sweet Briar alumnae community.
