USBCI Releases Q2 2026 Results, Highlighting Strong Capital Deployment and Upcoming Tranche 3 Funding

The Utah Small Business Credit Initiative (USBCI) has released its Q2 2026 performance results for the U.S. Treasury, demonstrating sustained progress in expanding access to capital, backing high-impact industries, and strengthening technical support for small businesses across Utah. The initiative continues to advance its mission of driving statewide economic vitality and job creation, particularly across rural regions and underserved markets.

During the second quarter, USBCI deployed nearly 89% of its $23.5 million Tranche 2 funding. As of June 30, 2026, $21.6 million has been committed or expended. Having successfully deployed 62% of Utah’s total $69 million federal allocation to date, USBCI is preparing to launch its U.S. Treasury-approved $24 million Tranche 3 funding on August 1, 2026.

  • Small Business Investment: $2.1 million was committed across 22 small business loans, with an average loan size of $97,199 and a maximum single funding commitment of $1 million.
  • Job Impact: USBCI loan commitments spurred the creation of 111 new jobs and retained 80 existing positions, delivering a total employment impact of 191 jobs. On average, each new job created represented approximately $19,265 in deployed funds.
  • Statewide Reach & Rural Focus: Loan distribution spanned seven Utah counties—Iron (47%), Davis (23%), Utah (19%), Washington (8%), Salt Lake (3%), and Weber (less than 1%). Rural communities received 55% of the total funds, while the remaining 45% went to the Wasatch Front.
  • Industry Diversification: Funding supported key sectors, including truss manufacturing (47%), fitness and recreation sports centers (23%), passenger car rental (19%), couriers/express delivery services (4%), and commercial/industrial machinery rental (4%). Additional allocations supported landscaping, bars, childcare, automotive, art studios, and schools.
  • Support for Underserved Businesses: USBCI directed $562,260 in loans to Socially and Economically Disadvantaged Individuals (SEDI) and $156,110 to Very Small Businesses (VSBs) with fewer than nine employees.
  • Lending Partnerships & Efficiency: Loan access was maintained through strategic collaborations with five Economic Development Organizations (EDOs) and 17 local lending partners. USBCI maintained strong operational efficiency, delivering initial commitments to lending partners within 15 business days and funding commitments within 32 days.
  • Technical Assistance Program (TAP) Engagement: Supported by a $1.2 million federal grant, USBCI’s TAP initiative actively delivered legal, accounting, and financial advisory services during Q2. Partnering with Suazo Business Center, the Women’s Business Center of Utah, and Small Business Consulting, the program provided 857 total hours of specialized support to 276 small businesses.

USBCI remains dedicated to empowering Utah’s entrepreneurial ecosystem — driving targeted investments, expanding specialized advisory services, and building sustainable economic growth across the state.
