Orange County Shares Findings from 2026 Resident Survey

Orange County has released the results of its 2026 Resident Survey, which gives an updated look at how residents feel about county services, quality of life, housing, growth, and future priorities.

The county began using a statistically valid survey in 2023 as part of its Strategic Plan. The Board of County Commissioners decided these surveys should continue every two to three years to help measure service levels and gather feedback on community needs.

In spring 2026, 419 randomly selected households completed the survey. This sample size provides reliable results with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.8 percent at the 95% level of confidence.

“The survey shows that residents value what makes Orange County unique. Parks and open space were the top reasons people choose to live here, followed by access to health care, low crime rates, arts and cultural activities, and being close to family and friends. Nearly all respondents—96 percent—said protecting open space is important,” said Orange County Board of Commissioners Chair Jean Hamilton.

Residents reported strong satisfaction with key county services, including emergency medical services, 911, libraries, elections, solid waste, and recreation. Orange County also continues to score highly as a place to live, raise children, attend college, be active, and learn.

The 2026 results show progress in several areas since 2023. Positive ratings for internet availability increased substantially, and more residents agreed that the county provides adequate access to leisure and cultural activities and does a good job keeping residents informed about county programs and services. Residents also reported improved perceptions of the quality, safety, and adequacy of public-school facilities.

ETC Institute conducted the survey by mail, phone, and online, with follow-up through text, email, and social media. The sample reflects the county’s population and geography.
