— Darrah Kauhane, ED, HEF

HONOLULU, HAWAII, USA, November 15, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Highly trained and valuably skilled ophthalmologists from across the United States joined together to form a team of 6 volunteers that traveled to Bali, Indonesia, this past month. The three-day Indonesia Eye Meeting (IEM) was held at the Sanglah General Hospital, in coordination with the Faculty of Medicine of Udayana University, conducted by the Hawaiian Eye Foundation, and sponsored by Allergan and CorneaGen. IEM was attended by over 100 Indonesian ophthalmology students and practicing ophthalmologists.

This year’s Meeting marked the country’s first IEM eye surgical training program! A wide range of didactic topics were again included: glaucoma, cataracts, neuro-ophthalmology, corneal and retinal disorders were covered in lectures and patient consultations, and a live wet lab to perform corneal implant surgery demonstrations. Case examinations were given by residents and patients were seen to allow the highly-skilled surgeons a first-hand look at the most difficult cases. Our world-renowned specialists provided valuable education to the Indonesian ophthalmologists. We sincerely thank Drs. Allen Eghrari, Manchima Makornwattana, Dhanu Meleth, and Prem Subramanian, for sharing their vast knowledge and years of skill in the specialties of Cornea, Glaucoma, Retina and Neuro-Ophthalmology, respectively.

HEF has been invited to return in 2020, to provide additional subspecialties, along with hands-on basic skills training workshops for local residents. Topics will include retinoscopy, refraction, keratometry, lensometry, tonometry, indirect ophthalmology, gonioscopy, visual fields, pediatric exams, neurologic exams, optical coherence tomography, and a suture lab.

The HEF faculty members traveled to Indonesia at their own expense to donate their time. “We are thrilled to begin this long-term relationship with the Udayana University, Sanglah General Hospital, and the Indonesian Ophthalmologists Association (IOA) also known as PERDAMI, under the umbrella of the Indonesian Medical Association. We have been so welcomed and embraced by this incredible team and their enthusiasm gives us such hope about the future of this partnership! We feel blessed to bring together such amazing professionals to share our mutual goals of education and compassionate, quality eye care,” said Darrah Kauhane, Executive Director of Hawaiian Eye Foundation. “The people of Indonesia inspire us to continue to reach out to other SE Asian countries and share this truly valuable program.”

Indonesia has 1668 ophthalmologists for all 257 million people. This represents a ratio of one ophthalmologist for 100,000 people, which is one-quarter of the World Health Organization’s target. Thus, the urgent need for ophthalmic training. Because of the event’s success, Hawaiian Eye Foundation will return for IEM-II in 2020. The Foundation’s efforts in Indonesia are amplified by its scholarship programs for SE Asian ophthalmologists and ongoing Vietnamese, Cambodian and Myanmar symposiums. Coming soon to Laos!

The 501(c)(3) non-profit, Hawaiian Eye Foundation (HEF), for 35 years, has worked to ensure that all people have access to eye care. http://hawaiianeyefoundation.org.

The ICare4Autism 2019 International Conference "Cannabinoids, Medical Cannabis, and Autism" is an opportunity to connect with community of professionals.

— Dr. Joshua Weinstein

NEW YORK, NYC, UNITED STATES, November 15, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Meet the Scholars, Therapists and Parents Looking for New Ways to approach Autism.

On December 17, 2019, ICare4Autism will host an International Conference at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Titled “Cannabinoids, Medical Cannabis, Neurodiversity and Autism,” the event will feature insights from a diverse array of experts in science, education, autism, and medical research.

The conference will focus on the topic of the cannabis extract Cannabinoid (CBD), and therapeutic usefulness as a treatment for autism. Studies, including one conducted this year by researchers at Israel’s Shaare Zedek Medical Center, have indicated that medical marijuana extract may alleviate autism symptoms in children. CBD is a non-psychoactive compound, meaning it does not produce the “high” of marijuana, which is caused by the chemical tetrahydrocannabidinol (THC).

In addition to providing insights into CBD and autism, the conference will feature discussions on neurodiversity (i.e., the view of conditions like autism as differences, rather than disorders).

Our goal is to create a collaborative forum on Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) that will increase awareness, knowledge of medical & educational research findings, evidence-based clinical best-practices, inform policymakers, and empower people with ASDs and their family members.

Dr. Lisa Hale of Focused Leadership Consulting to be Featured on CUTV News Radio

FORT COLLINS, COLORADO, UNITED STATES, November 15, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Even the CEO of a multibillion dollar company can get stuck. Whether their focus is in the foreground or background of their mind, that being stuck drains their leadership mojo. Too often, their solution is to dive into operationally fixing this problem. But how important is this problem in terms of the organization’s overall mission? How can leadership be at the root of it? In what way can a pause to reflect help us see a new creative, and more effective path? These are the questions leaders must ask.

Dr. Lisa Hale is the founder of Focused Leadership Consulting, where she helps senior leaders and senior teams optimize and amplify their leadership effectiveness.

“The thing that gets in the way for even the most accomplished leaders is focus on the wrong things,” says Dr. Hale. “They are intimately focused on what they believe they should be focused on, but it's not getting the results they want. They're looking to outside of themselves for where the problems are. My role is to help them open their eyes to more possibilities; to lead, not manage.”

Dr. Hale has been working with leaders for over 30 years. She says a leader’s performance, creativity and energy all rise or fall based on how much they're stuck in fear, hiding or blame.

“When I'm working with that leader, the focus needs to be on their own thinking to transform outcomes,” says Dr. Hale. “Leaders deal with things that can push them into a very reactive place, but we can’t access our creativity when we’re coming from a place of fear.”

The only way we unleash our creativity is when we allow ourselves to choose the opposite of that fear, hiding and blame, which is love. The key, says Dr. Hale, is to lead from a place of love, truth and radical ownership. There is tremendous freedom in this path.

“As the senior leader of a team, we have to be committed to owning what we can do and be open to expanding our vision of what is possible,” says Dr. Hale. “Radical ownership is such a beautiful guide for leaders of teams, because each of us has everything to do with how we respond to stress. We can't try to operate outside of our own locus of control. Most leaders understand this conceptually, but when the rubber meets the road, they are stunned by how many opportunities they haven't considered. That's where the real fun begins: helping leaders see the things they can do about situations that actually move the needle.”

CUTV News Radio will feature Dr. Lisa Hale in an interview with Jim Masters on November 19th at 12pm EST and with Doug Llewelyn on November 26th at 12pm EST

Advocate for Nursing Jan Pack to be Featured on CUTV News Radio

OSCEOLA, IOWA, UNITED STATES, November 15, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there will be one million vacancies for registered nurses by 2024. This shortage of “acute nurses” will make a huge impact on all communities.

Jan Pack is a dedicated advocate for the future of nursing. Her goal is to ensure nurses are educated the best they can be for today's world.

“Nursing is indeed an art,” says Pack. “It takes a special person to perform these tasks. We hold the lives of our communities in our hands, so let's keep the art of nursing forever in our hearts.”

With over 48 years of experience as a registered nurse, Pack has specialized in administration, rehabilitation, surgery, dementia, wound care and home care. She considers nursing the most special, most honored, most-fulfilling career anyone can ever have. What has kept her in this career, she says, is her love of nursing itself: making sure all patients are individually cared for no matter their issue. This has always made the difference in achieving her goals of being the best she can be in her field.

"My greatest professional inspiration has always been Florence Nightingale,” says Pack. “She was the beginning of nursing as prior to that; "nurses" were regarded as less than scullery maids. They were not respected. Florence changed the entire thought process and turned it into a profession. She just inspired me. How can I follow in those footsteps?”

Unfortunately, says Pack, today’s nurses are not the nurses of the past, and will never be again. They’re more of a technician than hands on. Nurses today leave university with a degree in nursing, but still need at least 6-12 months of mentoring in order to understand, and learn the most important skills of a nurse: critical thinking and assessment. I am not going to say there are not awesome nurses out there today because they are there, but it is now the minority not the majority.

“Nurses care for patients holistically; we treat the entire person as an individual,” says Pack. “That's how I learned. That was, and is my experience. And that's what I will do to the end of my days. I will always recommend any new nurse to start in a hospital setting in order to acquire these skills that cannot be taught; only experience can bring these to the forefront.

“I am so proud, and honored to have that ability to care for whomever I touch and whatever I do, which is what I need to do,” says Pack. “It's my life; it's my soul. I do what I love to do every day.”

CUTV News Radio will feature Jan Pack in an interview with Doug Llewelyn on November 19th at 4pm EST

Reincarnation is One of the Keys to Solving Plastic Pollution

Plasticity Bangkok – UN’s Sea of Solutions

Plasticity Bangkok – Forming Collaborations

“Skyscraper” the Bruges Whale, Breaching In Front of the ArtScience Museum in Singapore

Plasticity Bangkok at UN's Sea of Solutions Drives Home the need for Reincarnation of 2nd Life Plastic.

Solutions that the Plasticity Forum has helped to spawn include technologies to improve sorting for recycling, bio-based innovations, as well as the use of “tragic plastic" for new byproducts.”

— Douglas Woodring

BANGKOK, THAILAND, November 15, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Plasticity Bangkok, a one-day intensive business forum focused on solving the problem of plastic pollution says that reincarnation is the key. Reincarnation of plastic, that is. The global forum, which was launched at the Rio+20 Earth Summit, believes that retrieving plastic from the environment and giving it a purposeful second life is central to global reduction in plastic pollution. Plasticity’s mantra of success through business innovation has taken the globe-trotting forum to 13 major international cities since its launch Rio de Janeiro in 2012.

With plastic pollution becoming one of the most urgent environmental issues facing governments, corporate boardrooms and individuals, Thailand is taking the lead in bringing about positive change for the reduction in plastic waste, with a four-day SEA of Solutions Week, hosted by UN Environment. Plasticity Bangkok, which conducted the entire second day of the event, brought together over 450 local and international participants to collaborate on solutions that are relevant and scalable within Thailand and the region.

“For nearly 10 years, our one-of-a-kind innovation forum, Plasticity, has been working with the business community across the globe.” says Plasticity Founder, Doug Woodring.

“Solutions that Plasticity has helped to spawn in the past include technologies to improve sorting for recycling, bio-based innovations – and even the use of “tragic plastic” (unsorted and hard-to-recycle plastic) for construction materials. At Plasticity Bangkok, investment in new equipment and programs that will help communities bring value to plastic waste, allowing for the ‘reincarnation’ of plastic, will be a major topic.”

“With its relatively large population, volume of material – and with tourism as a main economic driver for the country – due in no small part to the beauty of its coastline and waters – there are great opportunities for Thailand to become a world leader in plastic pollution reduction," says Trish Hyde, Director of the Plasticity Forum and CEO of Plastx. Cross-border trade in semi-processed plastic for recycling must be allowed to happen in order to create a global circular economy, as most countries do not have the resources to recycle everything on their own, nor do they have the manufacturing industries to use the valuable recycled content once created.

Related to the topic of plastic pollution, Ocean Recovery Alliance launched a summary report “Crafting High-Impact Voluntary Commitments to Prevent and Reduce Marine Litter” which introduces a new guide and scorecard, named “Commitments 2.0.” This was made possible by funding from United Nations Environment. These tools will allow stakeholders around the world to create stronger and more effective commitments to reducing plastic pollution, whether for large companies, governments, or small organizations with limited resources. "The report is intended to challenge the ‘business as usual’ methods which have previously been used in crafting commitments" says Doug Woodring, Managing Director, "and to now have opportunities to engage communities with efficient, replicable and scalable commitments for the world to benefit from.”

Regional momentum in Asia on the topic is gaining across broad sectors of the business and government sectors, with community awareness being bolstered by public installations such as "Skyscraper" the Whale, which has started its Asian tour at the ArtsScience Museum in Singapore, and also organized by Ocean Recovery Alliance. The 11m tall spectacular sculpture is made from plastic collected in the North Pacific Gyre, and its breaching shape bears the question for all – "Have We Breached the Limit?" in terms of our consumption of single-use plastic, and lack of capacity to handle its waste.

PELHAM, NEW YORK, USA, November 15, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Two NY teen entrepreneurs lit up the Forbes 30 under 30 summit in Detroit through street wear and environmental passion!

Forbes supports Entrepreneurship, and proves it when Forbes8 and iCON partnered with two 16 year olds: Julia Corso and Vincent Testorf, co-founders of a brand new streetwear company based in NY. Part of GenZ, these two young entrepreneurs were the perfect match to link their inspiring generation with the new Forbes8’s interactive international platform.
Forbes 30 Under 30 in Detroit was on fire, according to Teen entrepreneurs GenZ Julia Corso (age 16) and Vincent Testorf (age 16), creators of street wear line dripeight (www.dripeight.com) which was presented during the NYFW last September.

The Teens partnered with Forbes8 and iCON, a new industry-player tapping into the creativity, intellect, and potential of Gen-Z. Dripeight is a world class streetwear line that gives a portion of all sales to help climate change. In their own words: "We want to make an impact in everyday life, and to connect with people who have the same sense of style, and fashion. Through our designs, we can express our worries about what’s happening to our planet. We donate 10 % of our profits to charities – it is our way to show our commitment”.

Dripeight designed a T-shirt showing the partnership of the brands during the “forbes under 30” summit in Detroit.
The Gen Z teens “T-shirt” was so dope (desirable), it made it into the hands of basketball legend Kevin Durant, rapper Quavo Huncho, and rapper 21 Savage.
The mammoth movement of Gen-Z catalyzed Dripeight and iCON’s initial meeting. iCON, a new industry-player tapping into the creativity, intellect and potential of Gen-Z, closes skills and data-gaps by harnessing their most precious asset: talent. iCON fuses creative content, social media and skills-based education to provide a new place to be inspired, to exchange ideas and build skills. iCON’s formidable partnership with Forbes8 grounds it as the go-to source for Gen-Z innovation, and a natural collaboration for Drip Eight.
