MoodOff Day calls for ‘Breakfast Before Browsing’ to raise awareness of smartphone addiction.

‘Our smartphones allow us to be within constant reach; yet, quite often we trade this hyperactive connectivity for being present’. Nirma Ledford

Our smartphones allow us to be within constant reach; yet, quite often we trade this hyperactive connectivity for being present. Please help us make a difference – donate!”

— Nirma Ledford

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, USA, February 24, 2018 / — For those of us beyond thirty years of age, our memories are plenty of a time not so long ago when our day-to-day lives were filled with the freedom to be truly present with each other.

Every day we had to get to know people by truly connecting with them. We enjoyed quality time and had great conversations “filling” each other in on the ins and outs of our stories and our lives, as we were free from the constant intrusion of mobile phones.

However, when Mobile phones became a common item in our pockets the way we connected and related with each other transformed forever.

Due to the proliferation of smartphones and social media, the conventional ways of interacting and sharing our stories with each other has become somewhat nostalgic. Nowadays, there seems to be no real need to reach out and connect after we see a friend’s post on Facebook.

Our smartphones are a window where we can view a social gallery of tailored and filtered content strategically curated by our family and friends. When we scroll to glance at the lives of others through our ‘smart windows’, the desire to connect and interact with people is superficially stilling our appetite to relate one-on-one. By doing so, we often feel that we have done our duty of care by simply clicking on the ‘Like’ button of our family and friend’s posts.

Our smartphones also play a big part in the way we experience our meet up opportunities where we can connect, be present and ‘real’ with each other. Have you ever felt/been forgotten by your friend because she chooses to take ‘that’ phone call or was too busy curating the right photos for her Instagram gallery? If this was your experience, you are not alone!

Globally, the average number of times a person will look at their smartphones is 30 times but this number skyrockets among FOMO sufferers. FOMO is the compulsive desire to be constantly online via a smartphone. Today, smartphone addiction is a reality around the world and because of smartphones, more and more people both young and old are feeling that disconnection with the suffering of depression and anxiety not an uncommon eventuation.

Thanks to MoodOff Day, a harm prevention charity, more people are becoming aware about the issues around smartphone addiction. In 2011 Tapas Senepati founded MoodOff Day with the idea to celebrate the day through an absence of smartphone technology. Tapas encourages people to get behind the initiative by simply going one morning without technology for at least five hours on the last day of February.

This year it falls on the 25th February – to get behind ‘breakfast before browsing’ and reclaim some balance in your life simply refrain from using your phone or smart device for the first 5 hours of your day. While many laugh it off, doing it will truly show how addicted you are to your phone.

MoodOff Day is also putting out a call for donations in order to support ongoing awareness campaigns around smartphone addition, cyber-bullying and to encourage people to pledge not to text while driving. Over the past six years thousands of people across 42 countries have been reached and gotten involved. But there is more to be done, so please donate generously.

This year, MoodOff Day takes place Sunday 25th February, get behind the cause and participate by organising a brunch with family and or friends, switch off and enjoy good company and a break from technology for five hours. Contribute to the cause by sharing it around, and help to raise funds towards increasing awareness, minimize harm and reduce the injury and fatalities due to texting-while-driving. To donate head to

So no matter the temptation, stay switch off for 5 hours and connect and be present – this Sunday 25th February. More info visit

Kim Habibi Offers Tips To Build The Perfect Resume To Get The Job You Want

SARASOTA, FLORIDA, UNITED STATES, February 23, 2018 / — One resident has noticed a familiar trend in their community. But that resident hopes to change it into a positive. Kim Habibi noticed not many residents have an updated resume or even started to build one.

"No matter how much work experience a person has, everyone should have an updated resume," says Habibi. "For many of these people, knowing where to start that has become the hardest part."

Because of these findings, Habibi wants to teach a class on resume building. Any person who wants to build their first resume or update their current one can join the class. Habibi adds it does not hurt a person to have a professional, updated resume ready to send to prospective employers.

"There are so many problems people have with building a resume," says Habibi. "Should I put all my accomplishments on there? Which resume rules or trends should I follow? These are just some of the issues people become flustered with as their sit and build their resume."

Habibi plans to address all of these questions and more in one class. But for those not able to attend her class in her community, she lists some rules every resume builder should follow.

Don't List Everything On Resume

Kim Habibi stresses that a person should not put every place they have worked on their resume. The person should think of their resume not as a comprehensive list of work history. But they should look it as a selling point for them as the perfect person for that job.

"If a person is applying for an office job, they should not list their landscaping job from high school," says Habibi. "Look to include only relevant jobs similar to the job you are looking to attain."

Put Your Best Stuff Higher Up The Page

Having the best qualities, jobs, and accomplishments "above the fold" gives the best chance for the employer to catch the best of you. The first impression means the difference in gaining the job or becoming just another person in the stack of papers.

"You do not want to list relevant jobs and accomplishments at the bottom of the page," says Habibi. "Having these at the top means the employer will continue to have interest and keep your resume in the good pile."

Keep Your Resume To One Page
While these topic has become debatable over the years, Habibi stays with the traditional rule of keeping a resume to one page.

"You want your information to be concise," says Habibi. "Keeping it to one page is a good way to force yourself to do this."

If the person has enough relevant and vital experience, training, and credentials that take up more than one page, Habibi says go for it.

"But if you can tell the same narrative on just one page, do it," concludes Habibi.

"In the class, I will teach, attendees will learn how to cut content to fit on one page. But there are tricks such as using a smaller font and coming up with a design that fits all that you want."

Make Contact Information Stand Out
Many people do not know that you don't need to put your address on a resume anymore.

"But every resume should include a phone number and professional email address," adds Habibi. "Also, in the world of social media, listing your profiles would help too."

But Habibi stresses that a person should only list social media profiles if they are suitable for an employer to check out.

"You do not want to lose the opportunity for a job because an employer was turned off by your social media posts," says Habibi.

Kim Habibi does plan to announce time and place of his resume building class shortly.

William Lightner opens up about traveling the world in the name of God

William Lightner

Many people live their entire lives never having found what is often referred to as their "true purpose."

MARIETTA, GA, UNITED STATES, February 23, 2018 / — Whether from a personal or professional standpoint, discovering your true calling can be a life-altering moment, at least according to William Lightner.

Highly-educated, having attended a private Baptist school in his youth, before moving to Judson University in Illinois as a teen, William Lightner gave up everything to travel the world and serve God as an evangelist.

This meant leaving a successful career in finance, having previously also worked in executive sales.

In a perhaps surprising twist, the former military man actually credits his education with his decision to quit "the norm" and travel the world as a servant of God.

"Judson University was an outstanding college for me because of the higher education setting and their worship of God," says Lightner.

Speaking more of the Christian liberal arts university, he goes on to say, "The university made me into the man I am today. Understanding the importance of personal relationships, but also my relationship with God was such a big part of my college experience."

William Lightner's momentous decision has seen him travel to 28 different countries alongside a well-known religious mission.

Becoming part of the mission saw Lightner enter a six-month development stage, of which he says, "They got me started with speaking, and traveling the world. The mission holds a special place in my heart."

He goes on to explain, "The vision for any mission began with Jesus Christ as He chose twelve ordinary men for His disciples to witness His life on earth and to be the first recipients of His teaching. The common goal [of a mission] is to see Jesus lifted up, and the Holy Spirit move in power and authority."

As part of the mission, Lightner has addressed vast crowds across much of the globe. During his travels, he has also personally supported hundreds of individuals in finding comfort in God. "I teach them to acknowledge fellowship, as well as faith through prayer," he says, "in order that they live a more sound life as a follower of Christ."

Now a highly-respected motivational speaker, Lightner believes that there are three main factors every speaker—or evangelist—should consider. These, he says, are "being personal" with the crowd, "showing passion," and being "powerful" with words.

Speaking further of the mission, William Lightner adds, "I'm forever appreciative of the chance they gave me. They're one organization I love doing work for."

Help for Teens and Parents as They Cope with Stress from Stoneman Douglas Shooting

Check to see if you're doing OK

Check to see if you’re doing OK

K’Bro app helps teens self-monitor their emotional well-being while providing their parents with
insight and early warnings.

MENLO PARK, CA, UNITED STATES, February 23, 2018 / — MENLO Park, Calif., February 23, 2018 – As the stress of the news from Stoneman Douglas High School mounts, teens are crying out for solutions that can help prevent these tragedies. K’Bro is an app designed to do just that. Kids share their thoughts and emotions while getting advice on how to deal with the challenges they face. Designed as a game, the app anonymously captures data about a child’s emotional state providing him or her with an “Am I OK?” index to inform and guide the child.

The daily index score from the app lets kids not only monitor their own emotional well-being but also see their improvements. If the parent is also a subscriber – which is at the discretion of the child, the parents receive the daily index score, alerting them if there is cause for concern.

K’Bro leverages deep-learning technology with semantic search and natural language analysis of emotions expressed throughout the app experience. Actual comments by the kids always remain private, protecting their privacy and willingness to share.

K’Bro is free to kids so they can gauge firsthand whether or not they are doing OK and can build emotional resilience independently. Parents can choose to subscribe to K’Bro to receive weekly updates and alerts with conversation starter tips provided by the app. The cost of the app is $4.95 per month. For the cost of a latte parents and guardians can bridge the communication gap with their kids.

“Parents worry about their kids, and with good cause,” said Patrina Mack, an entrepreneur and the founder of YouROK Corp. who developed the app. “With substance abuse and suicide on the rise in this age group, K’Bro has been developed to help uncover issues before they become serious. It gives kids and teens a fun way to express how they’re feeling without having to deal with their parents ‘poking’ into their business.”

Dr. Kevin Fleming, Founder of Grey Matters International, a neuroscience-based technology, consulting and advising firm for individuals and their families, says, "We live in an extremist culture—protecting kids from natural learnings needed to grow neural networks vs allowing them to disconnect from the environment completely via their technology addictions. But K'Bro 'gets it right' between parents and kids, allowing the critical conversations to happen with ease. Bravo!"

“Teens want parents to respect their privacy, while at the same time, know when to intervene,” says Mack, the mother of a teenage boy. “Parents can be at a loss for how to communicate with their children and get them the help they need before it’s too late. Kids using K’Bro want to let their parents know they’re hurting but are afraid of how their parents will respond. The gamified app, designed with evidence-based interventions, challenges the user to reach their personal best while providing entertainment value. Parents like K’Bro because they can find out how their child is feeling without having to ask a lot of questions—questions often met with steely silence.”

Suicide is one of the leading causes of death in the U.S., with boys ages 10 to 14 showing the 2nd highest increase in suicide rates. School shootings show no signs of abating when warning signs are missed. K’Bro can help provide early indicators that something is not quite right, facilitating parental engagement and other interventions.

About YouROK Corp.
YouROK Corp., based in Menlo Park, California, was developed by Patrina Mack, a product development expert and mother of a teenage boy, with industry leading AI experts. The app is a tool to give kids, and their parents, the ability to recognize when an intervention is needed by a trusted peer, parent or therapist. As the child plays the “Am I OK?” game or uses other evidence-based features in the app, K’Bro anonymously captures data about a child’s emotional state that informs the “Am I OK?” index. K’Bro uses artificial intelligence to analyze when a child’s behavior is worrisome—and when it’s not. Parents can choose to subscribe to K’Bro to receive weekly updates by category (school, family, social life and other stuff) and alerts with conversation starter tips while actual comments by kids remain private, protecting their privacy and willingness to share. K’Bro is free to kids so they will know for themselves if they’re doing OK and use the many features within K’Bro to build emotional resilience on their own.
